This article covers all the Millennium Falcons that LEGO has ever made, from the first one sold in year 2000 till the present (July 2010).

2011 Jan, Update: Good news for all! There is a new Millennium Falcon, #7965 scheduled for a June release this year with an indicative price of $139.99. So if you do not want to pay collector's price for your Falcon, wait for it and start saving now! ;)

From the moment of its first appearance in the genre defining movie "Star Wars: A New Hope" in 1977, the Millennium Falcon has captivated us and won a place in our dreams as the coolest starship to fly in the galaxy. Now, more than 3 decades later, it is still as cool as ever. It is true that George Lucas has created a newer generation of flashier looking starships with more modern looking armaments and technology, but nothing can beat the first machine powered by a hyperdrive that can out run the Empire's best ships. One push of the button - when it is in working condition - and your enemies can do nothing but wonder where you went. What can be more cooler than that?

The most iconic ship in the George Lucas' Star Wars galaxy, the Millennium Falcon is surprisingly not a great fighter like the X-Wing or even a shiny vessel like any of Coruscant's politicians' personal ride; it is actually an old freighter that has been modified countless times by Lando Calrissian and Han Solo to keep them ahead of pursuing ships during their smuggling runs. Luke Skywalker was known to remark "What a piece of junk!" on first seeing the Millennium Falcon in a hangar at Tatooine. And Princess Leia Organa praised Han and Luke for their bravery when she learned that her saviors-to-be came to her aid, not in an advanced and shiny prototype, but in an old transporter. Heap of junk, it may be, but any kid who watched Star Wars in 1977, flew in one - in their minds, at least, as soon as they got home from the theater.

Millennium Falcon Facts:

-The coolest vessel in the Star Wars universe.
-The Millennium Falcon was won by the smuggler Han Solo from fellow rogue Lando Calrissian in a Sabacc card game.
-It is actually an old Corellian Engineering Corporation YT-1300 freighter, with heavily and illegally modified hyperdrive engine and armor, with hidden compartments to hide smuggled goods.
-It is best maintained by a Astromech class droid like R2-D2.
-It is the fastest ship in the galaxy, at least according to Han Solo.
-Luke Skywalker: "What a piece of junk!" -on first seeing the Falcon in a hangar at Tatooine.
-Princess Leia: "You came in that thing? You're braver than I thought!" -on first seeing the Falcon during her rescue by Han and Luke.

Which is why, so many years later, some of those kids would want to build one for themselves when they managed to have the time to do it.
Why would they want to do that? For one thing, the Millennium Falcon has always been one of those toys, when available, that has always been on countless kids wish lists, but unfortunately priced out of parents' budget.

Well kids (yeah you!), waste time no more. "Do or do not" as Yoda would say. I have put together a list of every Lego Millennium Falcons produced by Lego from the first one in year 2000 till the latest available. What you will learn about them as you go through this hub is that they may vary in their degree of faithfulness to the original design in the George Lucas movies. This is because the Millennium Falcon, like all sci-fi movie vessels, has an interior dimension that does not match the exterior of the ship. It's smaller from the outside than it should be. If they matched in size, than the Falcon would be fat and bulky. It's a movie magic thing. So when designed into a Lego toy, compromises has to be made to account for the disparity.

Lego Millennium Falcons (organized by year):

Note: Prices are here as a rough guide; for example, for the one below this, though I listed the price at 350-450, you can still be able to find cheaper prices ($180) if you're willing to go for used one. The reason why the price is 350-450 is that this set, like most here, has already been discontinued, and thus has collector item status - hence the different asking prices. Generally, the older sets are rarer and harder to find. Comparatively, the latest one released in 2009 is priced much closer to the original price.

This section compares the differences in features of Lego Millenium Falcons models 7190 versus 4488 vs 4504 vs 10179 vs 852113 vs 7778. Altogether, there were 6 models released by Lego.

2004: Lego Star Wars Millennium Falcon #4504

Lego No: 4504
Pieces: 985
Ages: 9 - 16

Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars (@Amazon)

Year: 2004 (Discontinued)

-Has triangular pieces at the top that opens up easily, so that you can have a peep to see what Han Solo and Chewbacca is up to inside when the Princess is not around ;)
-Great for display; not for playing though (-see Cons section)
-Has great interior space to fit large number of minifigs inside
-Bigger and with more details than the first
-Has an escape pod, with space for one character
-This model is set in The Empire Strikes Back, and thus features a Snowtrooper (with a cool cannon), as well as (new flesh toned) Han and Leia with their Hoth outfits. This also explains why there is no Luke.
-The turret on the top of the vessel has seat for one character
-Has a mechanism to raise and lower the ramp
-Has a swivelling gun turret (at the top), and also a rotating radar dish
-Interior is detailed and playable, with a Dejarik holochess area, and an engine room with a hyperdrive engine.

Cons:
-Too fragile; boarding ramp and triangular pieces (at the top of the vessel) fall apart easily, as this Falcon needs lots of tender loving care like in the movies; so not for kids or anyone who wants to play with it - alright for display though
-Cockpit holds 2 instead of 4
-No gun turret underneath so the sole Stormtrooper get free hits at the Falcon :(

Conclusion

I hope that this hub has helped you to compare the differences between all these LEGO Star Wars Millennium Falcon toys so that you know which is the best LEGO Star Wars Millennium Falcon model to buy. I won't be summarizing this into which is the best Falcon for sale for you guys because this really is an individual thing depending on what your budget is, and how close to the real thing you want your scale model Falcon to appear, whether it has the best and most realistic Falcon interior, etc, etc.

I will just gently remind you that LEGO Star Wars is LEGO's best selling creation, and come Christmas holidays 2010, these Falcons are going to be in demand again, so get it now, and NOT be disappointed by the annual Christmas price hike. If you think the prices for some of these sets are expensive, it will get worse come Christmas. :(

Now imagine if you will, that you are inside the Falcon, with the Princess by your side at the cockpit, and er ... Han Solo relegated as first mate, :D as we join Obiwan Kenobi, Luke Skywalker, Chewbacca, See Threepio and Artoo Detoo in their flight aboard the Millennium Falcon as they tackle the Empire's best as we relive their exciting adventures once again.
